Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) need a stable environment to give accurate measurements. In manufacturing plants, machines like stamping presses can create strong vibrations that affect CMM performance.
This problem becomes more serious during scanning, because the probe continuously moves over the surface of the part. Even small vibrations can reduce measurement accuracy and may cause the CMM to fail calibration.
How to Check the Problem
The first step is to find out whether vibration is actually causing the issue.
A vibration site survey measures floor vibration and mechanical shocks using special sensors and testing equipment. This helps identify the vibration frequency and its effect on the CMM.
Solution
Moving the CMM to a quieter area may help, but it can reduce production efficiency.
A better solution is to use BiAir® air spring isolators. These air springs reduce vibration and help the CMM work accurately without changing the production setup.
The correct air spring is selected based on the vibration level measured during the site survey.
If your CMM is facing calibration or accuracy problems near stamping or forging machines, a vibration site survey can help identify the right solution.
